APPLYING FOR FUNDS
  VONEF have put together some DOs and DON’Ts to consider when writing a funding application since many are rejected for very simple reasons, for example, no signature on the submitted form.

Use the checklist below both before and after you have completed your
funding application.

BEFORE

DO make sure your project fits the criteria of the funder
DON’T apply to one which benefits only charities if your organisation does not have charitable status.
DO make sure you have not passed the closing date for submission.
DON’T leave the work to one person, set up a sub-committee to contribute.
DO read the guidelines, they are written to help you.

AFTER

DO make sure that you clearly set out what you want the funding for and how much your project is going to cost, ensuring that your sums add up.
DON’T feel afraid to ask for help,speak to your CVS, Local Authority Link Officer or the grant giving body.
DO remember to add VAT where necessary and if you are applying
for salaries remember to include employer’s NI & pension fund.
DO make sure that you have proper financial procedures in place
DON’T miss the deadline for sending off your application form
DO make sure you answer every question even those “not applicable” to your situation, tell them why not.
DON’T forget to have the appropriate personnel sign and date the application form.
DON’T forget to enclose the background papers to support your application, Annual Report, Audited Accounts, Bank Statements, Job Descriptions, Cashflow, Business Plans ............

The way in which your organisation is run is equally important to funders as evidence of how their money will be used:

BUILDING
Furnishings
Access (can you accommodate disabled people?)
Equipment
Cleaning & Maintenance costs
Insurance (employers liability, contents, etc.)

POLICIES

It is essential that you demonstrate good practice and have adequate procedures in place to assist with the smooth running of your organisation.
