Home-Start, the UK’s leading family support charity, will benefit from a BBC Lifeline appeal to be presented by former Coronation Street and Bad Girls star, Debra Stephenson, on 20th July on BBC1. Home-Start provides a unique service for families - recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with at least one child under the age of five in their own home. Home-Start supports nearly 35,000 families and over 71,000 children each year. Almost 16,000 volunteers visit families in their own homes – parents support other parents in a variety of situations including isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness or disability, or those who are just finding parenting a struggle. Home-Start East Fife is based
in St Andrews and is one of the 340 local Home-Start schemes that will
be sharing the proceeds of the Lifeline appeal. Home-Start East Fife
has supported around 600 families with 1,200 children since its inception
in 1987. Lifeline is the BBC's monthly television charity appeal programme
which has helped raised money for and increased the profile of hundreds
of charities across the UK. There have been more than 250 appeals so
far and almost £6m has been raised for charities. |

| Snippet Profile - Cancer Network Fife | ||
Cancer Network Fife - is a local charity working to ensure that cancer support is available throughout the region. It works closely with voluntary and statutory agencies, including NHS Fife, Fife Council, Maggies and Macmillan Welfare Benefits. A diagnosis of cancer can be extremely stressful. Patients and their families may feel overwhelmed - how you react is not something you can plan for and feelings can change day to day. Often, it's easier to talk through difficult issues with someone outside your circle of close family and friends. Volunteers at Cancer Network Fife can offer one-to-one support in one of the comfortable outreach centres or in the client's own home. Support workers are fully trained and may have personal experience of issues faced by cancer patients and their families. Cancer can affect more than just physical health. Cancer Network Fife understands that having a significant illness can place an added burden associated with practical issues - finance, transport, home help etc. CNF can provide clients with information about available services, arranging appointments as appropriate or investigating service provision on the client's behalf. Patients, their families, friends and carers can access free and confidential services by calling CNF's head office on 01337 832668; by email mail@cancernetworkfife.org.uk; or via the online form on the CNF website www.cancernetworkfife.org.uk You can be visited at home, at a mutually agreed venue, or at your nearest outreach centre. The Network has centres in four locations across Fife - Ladybank, Anstruther, Buckhaven and Dunfermline. |
